British Airways drops face masks on more flights

BRITISH Airways has scrapped face masks on more of their flights ahead of the summer holidays.

Brits travelling between the UK and the US no longer has to wear a mask on the flight, after the US dropped the mandatory rule.

The UK flag carrier dropped face masks on a number of their UK flights to Europe, but said they were still in place on many flights as it depends on the rules of the destination.

However, it was announced on Tuesday that the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) no longer enforce the rules, and it is now a "personal choice" for passengers.

British Airways now says that travellers on US flights will only have to wear face masks as a "personal choice".

Virgin Atlantic has already updated their onboard face mask policy.

They said in a statement: "Effective immediately, face masks will be a personal choice for our customers and people travelling in either direction between the UK and the United States.

"We encourage everyone to be respectful of fellow passengers' mask preferences, with masks still available for those wishing to wear them."

Jet2 was the first UK airline to no longer enforce face masks on their flights.

Last month, TUI and EasyJet announced they were scrapping mandatory face masks onboard flights - but it would depend on where the passenger was flying to.

Ryanair is expected to do the same, as boss Michael O'Leary said he hopes to see the end of masks on planes by the "end of April or May," according to the .

And face mask rules were scrapped in the UK back in January, although they are still encouraged on public transport and in some public spaces.
