I was booted off my EasyJet flight to Corfu… but my BAG took a four day trip to Greece without me

A WOMAN was booted off her EasyJet flight on Friday - only for her suitcase to take a four day round trip to Corfu without her.

Stella Ingram from Tottenham was devastated to be told there was no space for her on her flight from London Gatwick to Corfu, but she didn’t realise her bag was still going on holiday.

Amid last week’s airport chaos, EasyJet announced at the boarding gate around 4.30am that Stella’s plane had been downgraded.

The 58-year-old was one of around 30 heartbroken passengers who could not fit on the plane of 184 and were told to go home.

Children were crying and families were shattered over the cancellation of their flight, but that wasn’t the end of the bad news for Stella.

After the other devastated travellers collected their luggage from the airport carousels, Stella realised her case that contained her medication was missing - it was still on the plane.

She discovered the suitcase flew to Corfu and back over the weekend, after she went out of her way to contact Corfu airport with little help from EasyJet

The teaching assistant said: “Everyone was very disappointed. There were a lot of very upset families. A lot of children crying et cetera.”

“It was almost adding insult to injury that they managed to keep my case on the plane and send that to Corfu.”

Stella described EasyJet’s customer services as “appalling”.

She said: “They actually stood there and not one of them - there were three of them standing there - made eye contact with us.”

“It was just like they haven’t got a toaster in stock at Argos, not ‘you haven’t got a seat on the plane’.”

As she only received an automated message from EasyJet after reporting her missing bag, she took matters into her own hands.

“I just rang Corfu airport myself. Nobody at Gatwick would contact me.

“I’ve had nothing really. On Friday I actually logged it, but it was not until Saturday when I got a reply from Corfu airport that it had arrived.”

Stella had been looking forward to her sunny trip since she booked it in April, but EasyJet couldn’t fit everyone on the plane.

She said: “They tried to accommodate families and anyone who had priority boarding.

“Then they started to go through the list of people when they checked in.

“I’m a grown up, it doesn’t matter, it’s not the end of the world, but the families with children…

“I think their business model of ‘sell cheap and provide a shoddy service’ has really come to fruition now and it’s ruined people’s holidays.

“I don’t think anyone is going to want to book a holiday with them.”

She said the airline company has offered her 500 euros in compensation but she’s doubtful that the total amount will come to this much.

“They should be called UnEasyJet,” she added.

A spokesperson from EasyJet said: “Unfortunately around 30 passengers were unable to travel on their flight EZY8755 from London Gatwick to Corfu yesterday as the aircraft due to operate the flight was delayed overnight and had to be replaced by a smaller aircraft.

“In these circumstances we always endeavour to seek volunteers in advance who are willing not to travel in exchange for compensation and alternative travel arrangements, however this was not possible on this occasion and we are very sorry for the inconvenience caused.

“Those who were unable to travel have been provided with the option of alternative travel arrangements or a refund as well as compensation.

“We are also very sorry for the delay in reuniting Ms Ingram for the delay her bag which is scheduled for delivery today.

"We will be in contact with her to offer a gesture of goodwill in light of the inconvenience caused and provide her with the compensation she is due."
