I’m a flight attendant – I know exactly what you should always avoid wearing on a plane

A FLIGHT attendant has lifted the lid on outfits you should avoid wearing on a plane.

Andrea Fischbach is used to travelling thousands of miles each day for work – and she’s picked up some useful tips during her time in the sky.

Travelling comfortably on an airplane requires a certain balance of practicality, consideration of the temperatures, sizing and fabric choices.

Fischbach says you don’t want to be restricted when you’re stuck in the same place for hours so you should avoid tight clothing.

She says anything that sits too heavy on the skin can cause cramping, swelling and be a pain later down the line.

She told : “It’s very important to be able to move around a bit in your seat—very difficult, I know—and keep your blood flowing.

“If you are tall, travel a lot, or are on a long flight, this is extremely important because you face the risk of developing DVT.

“Bloating is a major issue, even for flight attendants, so wear something comfortable around your waist like elastic.”

Footwear needs special consideration too as if you’re going to be on your feet for part of your journey you don’t want to be stuck in heels or shoes that are too tight.

If you have a quick transfer and need to move between terminals, it’s best to have a shoe that supports mobility.

She says: “I would really advise against high heels or flip-flops or any slides, mostly for safety purposes.

“If there is an evacuation and slides are required, your high heels will have to come off, as they can puncture the slide.

“Plus, they aren’t very practical running gate to gate.”

Any jewellery or accessories which have metal in them should be packed away in hold luggage to avoid setting off detectors in security.

Fischbach, who works for American Airlines, says some studded items might not be let through so it’s best not to risk it.

She says to ensure a laid-back, worry-free flight, consider how the temperature changes once the flight is up in the air.

Often she will be halfway to a destination that might be hot on arrival, but a passenger will have to endure a gruelling flight feeling too cold because they are underdressed on the plane.

She said: “Practically every flight, I see someone with barely any clothes on — crop tops with booty shorts, sports bras and leggings sans (without) jacket; bathing suits and board shorts.

“You name it; chances are we’ve seen it.”

Her advice comes as a woman slammed a young boy for his rude behaviour after a flight – and has divided opinion over how she reacted.

The 23-year-old woman said she was waiting at baggage claim after a long flight when the incident occurred.

She explained that there was a child, around 10 years old, who was skateboarding around the area.

She continued: “He kept getting in people’s way but nobody said anything until the little brat ran into me.

“He knocked me over and it hurt really badly and they said nothing.”
