Airline cancels another 2,200 flights this summer – see if yours is affected

Another airline has confirmed that thousands more flights will be cancelled this summer.

Last month, Lufthansa announced that 900 short-haul flights would be cancelled in July.

The affected flights will be on Fridays and weekends, with a number of destinations across Europe affected.

However, the German airline has since said they would be cancelling another 2,200 on top of this, out of their 80,000 flights.

The main hubs affected are Frankfurt and Munich, affecting both midweek and weekend flights according to .

Passengers will be informed if their flights have been cancelled.

The airline has also warned travellers to expect these kinds of cancellations until 2023.

Lufthansa board member Detlef Kayser told local media: "Unfortunately, we will hardly be able to realistically achieve a short-term improvement now in the summer.

"We expect the situation to return to normal by 2023.” 

Airlines have been forced to cancel thousands of flights in recent months, many citing staff shortages as the reason.

British Airways has cancelled 16,000 flights between March and October, to prevent cancellations at short notice.

TUI reduced its schedule this month, cancelling around six flights a day.

And easyJet confirmed that they would be cancelling around 30 flights a day for the upcoming future.

Strike action is also set to cause more problems this summer, with staff from airlines Ryanair, easyJet and BA threatening to walk out.
