To avoid this happening, Brits can take their suitcases onto the plane with them, if they fit the regulation of the airline.

Most airlines allow suitcases no larger than 56cm x 45 x 25cm to be taken into the cabin.

And women on Mumsnet have shared their best ones to take on your next trip abroad, after one asked for the "best carry-on bag + handbag combo for long haul".

For travellers who want more of a suitcase than a backpack, than one mum swears by another brand.

She wrote: "I have a that I’m ver pleased with, it’s soft not hard shell so you stuff it, there’s expandable extra zip so it can compress for stingy airlines and it has a pocket to hold a mobile charging pack with path to feed the wire out so you can easily charge your phone whilst hanging around the airport."

A mum commented: "I’m not answering your question but if you really are a packing geek and you haven’t already discovered them, you need packing cubes."

Lots of others liked her comments, and chimed in that they were great for compacting all your clothes into a smaller bag.

They aren't the only bags that have been praised online - one woman said a £12.99 Primark bag is perfect for Ryanair flights.

And other Brits have said they found the "perfect" bag for travelling without checked in luggage this summer.
