UK Christmas market dates revealed for 2022 – plus cheap hotels from £15.50pp a night

WITH traditional chalets, delicious food and lots of mulled wine, a good Christmas market is the best way to get into the festive spirit.

You don’t have to go far either – there are plenty of options right here in the UK.

Many have already announced their dates for this year so you can get planning if you don’t live nearby.

We’ve rounded up some of the most popular options around – read on to find out where to go this winter and where to stay.

London

There are a few Christmas markets in London but the biggest one is in Hyde Park.

This year the market is back in town between November 18 and January 2 so you’ll have plenty of time for your festive fix.

As well as stalls selling gifts and other trinkets, there’s an ice rink, pop up restaurant and lots of fairground rides.

You’ll need to book a ticket before you go – there are free tickets during off peak times.

Bath

This year the market will be taking place around Bath Street between November 24 and December 11.

Expect lots of pop up chalets with stall holders selling products from the surrounding region.

Due to limited availability, accommodation in Bath always tends to be a bit more expensive.

Birmingham

Fresh from the Commonwealth Games, Birmingham is having a moment so it’s well worth visiting if you haven’t been for a while.

Its popular is returning again this year between November 4 and December 23.

You’ll find it around Victoria Square and New Street.

As you can expect from a German-style market, there’s lots of pretzels and beer, as well as gluhwein (the German version of mulled wine).

Cheap accommodation is plentiful in Birmingham. for example has hotels from £33 a night – or £16.50pp.

Lincoln

Lincoln’s market is on for just four days

is a big event for the area, but it’s only up for a short time.

This year, it’s expected to take place between December 1 and 4.

There are some 150 stalls all laid out around the historic town centre as well as live entertainment.

Compared to bigger cities, there are limited accommodation options in Lincoln so prices are higher and there’s less availability.

The York Christmas market is returning again this year between November 17 and December 23.

Known as the , the festivities centre around Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square.

Alongside the usual stalls selling gifts and trinkets, there are pantos and musical performances as well. Make sure you book ahead for these though.

There’s a fairly decent number of accommodation options in the city, but it’s usually quite popular so it’s worth booking ahead.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh’s Christmas market is being this year, so there are a couple of changes, including the location.

This year’s Christmas market will be across Parliament Square and Castle Street, and will take place between November 18 and January 3.

There will be a mix of stalls selling Scottish produce as well as rides and games.

Rooms in Edinburgh tend to be booked up very quickly during big events so it’s worth planning ahead.

Manchester is the one city that hasn’t confirmed its Christmas market dates yet.

However, it’s expected to take place between November 12 and December 22 – the same as previous years.

There are a few locations around the city centre, with different opening and closing times.
