Once attracting 250,000 guests a year, it was originally part of Flamingo Land before becoming its own park in 2010.

However, visitor numbers dwindled over the years, and the theme park was forced to close in 2016.

Many of the rides were sold off, with the park left to ruin.

Yet there are now plans to turn the old site into a new holiday park.

The £65.9m redevelopment of Pleasure Island will include two hotels, with around 222 rooms and an on-site casino, according to .

There will also be 272 holiday lodges, as well as shops including a Lidl, Costa and garden centre.

A leisure unit will also be redeveloped, with it likely to be used by an arcade games operator.

While yet to be confirmed, other attractions could include a waterpark, adventure golf, laser tag and a planetarium.

There is no official dates for when the holiday park is to open, as it is currently in the early planning stages,

And local concerns include the pressure on the nearby roads as well as the lack of indoor entertainment facilities for rainy days.

Pleasure Island isn't the only theme park that has been left abandoned over the years.

In the UK, a Camelot-inspired theme park first opened in 1983, but was forced to close in 2012.

The owners blamed bad weather and large events like the Olympics for dwindling visitor numbers, with the park having since been demolished.

Tivoli World was once considered one of the best theme parks to visit along Spain’s Costa Del Sol.

It was forced to close in 2020, it has been left frozen in time with zero guests.

And in the US, Jazzland, Six Flags New Orleans has been abandoned for more than 15 years after it was damaged due to Hurricane Katrina.

It is now a creepy shadow of its former self - but is popular with blockbuster film producers.
