The UK airport launching flights to top holiday spot for first time in a decade

, flights from Manchester to Cairo will resume on July 15 after they were halted more than eight years ago.

It means Manchester will be the only UK city outside of London to have a direct route to the Eypgptian capital.

There will be five flights each week departing at 2.30pm every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with a flight time of four hours and 30 minutes.

Sun Online Travel have found flights for £185 for a one-way ticket.

Chris Woodroofe, managing director of Manchester Airport, told TTG Media: "Having a direct route to Cairo is fantastic news for travellers in our region, giving them a straightforward means of visiting one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world.
 
"This link also offers businesses in our region access to a fast-growing market and adds another in-demand route to our growing network, cementing our place as the UK’s global gateway in the north.";

While the airline will be using a Boeing 737-800 short-haul aircraft, there will be room for business class seating.

As reported by , Mohamed Moussa, boss of EgyptAir added: "Being a main hub to Africa, the Middle East, and the Far East, Cairo International Airport offers various connections to passengers from Manchester to explore the world, with EgyptAir serving more than 70 destinations worldwide."

Airports across the country are seeking to increase their offerings to holidaymakers this year.

Plymouth City Council leader Richard Bingley is backing a bid to reopen Plymouth Airport after more than a decade.

The airport was closed after leaseholder Sutton Harbour Group (SHG) triggered a so-called “Armageddon clause” that allowed it to stop flights if it was deemed uneconomic.

Swansea Airport has announced a new flight route to and from Exeter Airport, launching this year.

Meanwhile, London City Airport is also hoping to expand its offerings after it submitted plans to add more flights to its weekend schedule.
