The seaside town which locals say has the ‘best fish and chips in the world’ – as well as beautiful beaches
A SEASIDE town in the UK has been praised by the locals – and some even claim it has the best fish and chips in the world.
Most beach resorts will claim that they have the best fish and chips, with it being a staple for a UK seaside break.
One popular destination in the UK is Whitby in Yorkshire, with the town popular for its beaches and its historical sites.
And many claimed that it was home to the best chippy after one woman said she was going to visit.
Asking on Twitter, Nicky said: “Who’s been to Whitby? Is it nice? Bit late if it’s not. I’ve already booked a holiday there for the week.”
Hundreds of people chimed in, with a common comment being about the classic seaside dish.
One said: “It’s unique and lovely. Best fish ‘n’ chips in the world.
“Also visit Sandsend and Robin Hood’s Bay. And Beck Hole pub, near Goathland on the way, I suggest.”
Another wrote: “It’s one of the many jewels in Yorkshire’s crown – you’ll love it!”
A third added: “Lovely place. Best fish and chips in the country.”
While being the “best in the world” might be an exaggeration, one chippy in Whitby was named the best in the UK as recently as 2019.
was voted the best place to get fish and chips in the country by the National Fish & Chip Awards.
The restaurant has been selling chippy teas since 1980 and boasts online about its “traditional menu of fish and chips, seafood and British dishes, served all day, every day, throughout the year”.
However, it’s not the only fried food vendor in the town to lay claim to the title of best in the nation, with The Magpie Cafe named number one by last November.
They said of the establishment: “The Magpie Café is widely and rightly known as one of the best places to eat fish and chips in the UK. It’s no frills, all gills at this spot that tenderly overlooks Whitby harbour.
“Responsibly-sourced local fish populate the menu and it’s the freshness of that fish – as well as the oil they use to fry it – that makes The Magpie so special.”
Seaside towns with good chippies often have good beaches too and Whitby is absolutely no different.
Whitby has its own beach as well, with more than 1,000 five-star reviews on TripAdvisor.
And the nearby Robin Hood’s Bay and Sandsend are two of the beaches recommended to Nicky by locals.
A night in Whitby can be booked from £54 per night for two, with accommodation available just yards from the beach.
Meanwhile, this is the best seaside town in England.
And this forgotten seaside town in the south of England has won praise from a former Bond girl.
