Travel show host reveals why she always takes an egg cup on holiday

A TRAVEL show presenter has revealed why an egg cup is always one of the first things she packs in her suitcase when going on a trip.

Hotel breakfasts can be a highlight of a night away, but there are some home comforts that some people find difficult to get at the buffet.

However, Catriona Rowntree, who has presented the show Getaway for 27 years, has made sure she gets her favourite breakfast by taking an egg cup with her whenever she travels.

When asked if she had any hotel hacks by , she said she always packs one because there never seem to be any at the hotels she visits.

She said: “If you like boiled eggs, take an egg cup from home, no one ever seems to supply them.”

Not everyone agrees that egg cups are a sensible thing to pack, however, with former hotel worker  sharing a clip on TikTok warning people against eating them.

She said: “I don’t know how to say this without being attacked by people in the industry… if your hotel serves the hot continental breakfast, eggs, waffles stuff like that, don’t eat that s***.”

Someone who claimed to have worked in the food industry for more than 12 years agreed, commenting: “Mostly worked as a morning hotel chef or manager. The buffet eggs are a no-go.”

Catriona had other recommendations, including what people should avoid in their hotel room, with the minibar a big no go.

She continued: “Never touch the minibar, they’re always overpriced.”

Most people know that taking things from the hotel minibar can land them with a hefty fine, but there are places where putting things in them can also cost extra money.

That’s exactly what happened to Raj Mahal, the founder of the travel booking site .

During a stay in Las Vegas, he stored some of his own drinks in the hotel minibar, only to find he had to pay for the privilege on check out.

He said: “I was at the MGM Aria Resort, where they have advanced minibars that employ sensors that can detect when an item is moved or the size or weight changes.

“We brought our own alcohol and used the mini-fridge to keep it cool and when we checked out, MGM charged us a $25 (£22) a day ‘personal use fee’.”

Meanwhile, this travel money expert revealed the five costly mistakes travellers make with holiday cash.

This card mistake will also cost you more money than you should be paying.
