Where is the Cambridge Belfry?

The hotel is just under a 30-minute drive from Cambridge city centre in the small village of Cambourne.

The easiest way to get there is by car and there is a large car park onsite.

The hotel attracts a mishmash of stag and hen dos, families and businessmen who come to use the large conference rooms.

The red-brick building is rather dated on the inside, but the gardens are well kept with an outdoor terrace that overlooks a small lake.

There are plenty of conference rooms, a small spa area and gym, plus there's a restaurant and bar.

What is there to do at the Cambridge Belfry?

If you're after a spa day that won't break the bank, this place is reasonable.

For just over £100 you can bag a 50-minute spa treatment, three-course dinner, an overnight stay with brekkie and an gift.

Just make sure to enquire about the swimming classes in advance to avoid having to share the pool with kids.

Arrive early if you can too as the pool area is quite small and loungers are limited.

It's not the best spa for a romantic retreat but for large hen do groups on a budget it fits the bill.

What is there to eat and drink at the Cambridge Belfry?

If you don't fancy travelling into the city, the main restaurant offers classic British grub including burgers, salads, pastas and steaks.

I chose the seabass, which was well cooked with a deliciously crispy skin, although it was the oozing chocolate fondant dessert that really won me over.

The 120 rooms are basic yet comfy and vary in size from classic doubles to penthouse suites geared up for families, with a sofa bed, Elemis toiletries and mini fridge.

Our suite could do with a facelift, but it worked as a base for exploring historic Cambridge with its bunting-lined streets and boutique shops.

Is the Cambridge Belfry family friendly?

If you're after a bargain place near Cambridge to stay with kids then you'll be pleased to learn that kids under 16 stay for free when sharing a room with a paying adults.

Kids under five can also bag a free brekkie, and they can also dine on two lunch and dinner courses when dining with a paying adult.

Is there access for guests with disabilities?

Yes, very.
