Tiny UK town that gets compared to a Greek island – thanks to pastel-coloured houses & golden sandy beaches

VISITORS to a Welsh seaside town could be forgiven for wondering if they've landed on an Aegan island on a sunny day.

Tenby in Pembrokeshire, southeast Wales has no less than three beaches, despite its small size.

It rose to fame because of its sandy coastline, medieval buildings, and colourful houses.

But in recent years, the Welsh town has been compared to an island in Greece.

Tenby has been likened to Symi, a Greek island near Rhodes.

Both destinations are home to a string of colorful houses, and golden sandy beaches.

In a , travel blogger Angela Price compared destinations across the UK to holiday hotspots around the world.

She wrote: "Both locations have golden sands, colourful buildings, delicious fish restaurants, and warmly welcomed tourists.

"Tenby also has 13th-century town walls, castle ruins, and a tidal island with a Napoleonic fort!

"Admittedly, the sun won’t shine as much as in Greece, but you will still have a great holiday."

The majority of the colourful houses in Tenby are owned by local residents, but there's more to do than simply admire the buildings.

Tenby is home to three beaches including Castle Beach, North Beach, and South Beach.

Castle Beach is a sandy beach where holidaymakers can catch a boat to the neighbouring island of Caldey.

Caldey Island is owned by monks and is home to a grand monastery, and day trippers are welcomed onto the island from Easter until October.

Other activities in the Welsh town include Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, St Mary's Church, and coastal walks.

Tenby is just over an hour's drive from the Welsh city of Swansea, and a two-hour drive from Cardiff, the Welsh capital.

The Welsh seaside town also has its own train station with direct services in operation to Swansea.

There are plenty of accommodation options in Tenby including hotel chains, holiday rentals, and campsites.

Holidaymakers can book an overnight stay at places like the local Premier Inn from £39.50 per person per night, based on two people sharing a room.
