Holidaymakers face travel chaos at top autumn sun destination – including half term
BRITS heading to Spain's Canary Islands this month could see their holidays affected, as thousands of road transport workers are set to strike in a dispute over pay.
Airport transfers, and other tourist coach services, in the Canary Islands will be affected by the walkouts.
More than 15,000 road transport workers in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura are set to take part in industrial action after pay negotiations fell through over the weekend.
The strikes started this morning and further walkouts are scheduled for every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in this month.
Disruption is expected to impact Brit holidaymakers travelling to the Spanish islands during the October half-term.
While the local government has reassured residents that transport to hospitals, medical centres, and schools will still operate as usual, "significant travel disruption is expected" for tourists.

Discretionary services like airport transfers and other coach services for tourists will operate at around 30 per cent of their usual capacity.
A statement on the reads: "If you are on holiday in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and needing to travel or use road transport, we encourage you to contact your tour operator or transport company as soon as possible for more information to understand how this strike may impact your travel arrangements."
According to the local newspaper the , if an agreement over pay isn't reached by the end of the month, the strike action could carry on into November.
