The bizarre underground theme park found in the ‘oldest salt mine in the world’ – with rides and live shows

A theme park can be found within a salt mine - deep underground.

Salina Turda, in Romania, is found 120 metres below ground in one of the oldest salt mines in the world.

With the salt mines dating back as far as 1271, the theme park opened back in 2010.

It now welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors a year, with both locals and tourists.

Inside is a huge 20m panoramic wheel which is the "only one in the world that works underground";.

There are also games including bowling, mini-golf for both kids and adults, as well as table tennis and billiards.

It even has playground for kids which has slides and basketball hoops.

Go a bit further down and you can even take a boat ride on the Theresa Mine lake.

And for live shows and movies, there is a huge amphitheatre with 180 heated seats so you won't get cold.

Most people take the glass lift down, with panoramic views.

However, you might be in for a wait as there is only one - unless you go down the long stairs.

Food stalls can be found outside with local treats such as nougat and lango, a fried bread with sour cream and cheese.

One person wrote: "This mine experience is something unexpected after some days in Romania and maybe it's the most fantastic place I've ever been."

Another said it was a "hidden gem" in Romania.

A third commented: "This place is SPECTACULAR!"

It's not just the theme park that is amazing - as it is thought that the climate inside also has health benefits.

The microclimate is thought to be able to help with asthma and hay fever as well as skin conditions.

The unique microclimate of humid, salty air inside Salina Turda is also believed to have some health benefits.

It isn't the only strange theme park - in Germany, a theme park is built inside a nuclear reactor.
