First look at new ‘duelling family coaster’ coming to Legoland next year

WORK has begun on a brand new ride at Legoland, Windsor – but for now the park is remaining tight-lipped about what exactly guests can expect.

In November 2022, proposals were approved for a “duelling family shuttle coaster” and it appears work has finally begun on the project, which fans hope will open at the park next year.

Last month images emerged of construction starting on the ride, which will be built where the former Raft Racers ride was before it closed last year.

The pictures, shared by , showed two work vehicles at the theme park, where the plans said the ride would be built.

In a post on Facebook accompanying the snaps, they said that groundwork is “ongoing for the duelling family coasters.”

What we do know from the plans is that the ride will have two separate tracks, on which two coasters will “duel” against one another.

also suggested how they expect the ride to run once it is finished.

They predicted: “The two rollercoaster trains will ascend backwards up the lift hills at the rear of the station, before being released in unison to travel through the layout.

“This will see them first travel at speed back through the station, underneath the operator’s cabin, and further down the hill towards Duplo Valley.

“After completing a three-quarter helix, the trains will then find themselves heading towards each other, over shallow hills, before then completing two swooping turns, which will provide another duelling moment.”

Other theme park fans are getting excited about the ride, with some saying it could end up being a similar ride to the duelling coaster at Wildlands Adventure Zoo in Emmen, Netherlands.

have predicted that it could end up being the fastest ride at Legoland.

They said: “The dueling Family Boomerang Coaster appears to be a copy of Tweestryd in Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen.

“This is 20 meters high while reaching a speed of 60km/h (37mph).

“If the same roller coaster is actually built in Legoland Windsor, these will be the fastest roller coasters in the park.”

Currently, the park’s fastest ride is The Dragon, which has a top speed or around 50 km/h (31mph).

Others have compared it to other rollercoasters and aren’t expecting quite as much of thrill from the ride.

No official announcement about the ride has come from the park, which fans expect to open sometime next year.

A spokesperson from Legoland told Sun Online Travel that they didn’t have any further information to reveal at this stage.

Meanwhile, this was the best theme park in 2023 in the UK.
