The new European airline launching flights next year

The airline will fly to Europe's 'most beautiful places'

A BRAND new European airline is set to offer passengers a new choice of carrier from next year when it launches flights for the first time.

German airline Lufthansa is behind the new airline, City Airlines, and promises to provide "an exceptional flight experience in proven quality".

Flights won't begin until the summer, with the airline planning to recruit its new staff members from next month.

The airline said: "Recruitment of operational staff will begin in November 2023, with pilots and cabin crew members needed for the launch."

City Airlines was founded as recently as last summer, before obtaining its operating licence earlier this year.

The airline will expand Lufthansa's European route network and will be based primarily in Munich.

There will also be a base at Frankfurt.

Initially, City will begin its operations with a fleet of "modern and economical Airbus" A319 planes.

The airline's website claims that it will provide flights to "the most beautiful places in Europe".

It also promises "fast and convenient connections".

It reads: "Whether it's a business meeting or beach fun - we'll take you to the most beautiful places in Europe.

"As a new airline and the youngest member of the Lufthansa Group, we are thrilled to fly daily from our home base in Munich to major European cities and remote regions.

"At our hub, we also offer fast and convenient connections to the worldwide Lufthansa route network."

Recruiters are targeting English-speaking pilots, which they say will "position City Airlines for the long term".

Jens Fehlinger, Managing Director of City Airlines added: "With City Airlines, we want to create prospects for the coming decades and secure sustainable jobs in Germany.

"This is the only way for us to grow and sustainably strengthen the hubs in Munich and Frankfurt."

Further details about the airline, including destinations and ticket prices, remain unclear as of yet.

However, with flights set to take off in just a few months, that information will become apparent in the near future.

City isn't the only new airline planning to launch flights next year, with British airline Global Airlines acquiring an Airbus A380 earlier this year.

They hope to be operating transatlantic flights from London to New York and Los Angeles by the end of 2024.

Founder and chief executive James Asquith, who also created travel company Holiday Swap, said: "Our aspiration is to be the best way to fly and the A380 - with its unmatched levels of space, comfort and service - will be absolutely central to achieving that vision.

"The purchase of our first aircraft demonstrates that we are well on the way to launching Global."
