PARK UP

First look at the ‘year-round’ holiday park opening on UK island – with fancy lodges and wildlife trails

The plans have caused a stir among residents

A NEW holiday park is set to open in the UK - with some very fancy lodges and wildlife trails.

More than 30 eco-lodges are among the facilities due to be built on the site, which will be constructed on top of the concrete foundations of previously demolished holiday cabins.

The plans for a new environmentally-friendly holiday park on the Isle of Wight were approved by the local council last week.

Set near Cowes, on the north of the island, the new holiday park will be built next to the Gurnard Pines Holiday Village.

According to the local newspaper, , the development will be the "first of a new generation of net-zero holiday destinations in the UK."

As part of its net-zero offering, guests will also have their electricity consumption measured during their stay.

The electricity consumption will then be added to a guest's final bill, making their stay directly proportional to their carbon footprint.

All of the 32 eco-lodges will be highly energy-efficient, with triple-glazed windows, solar panels, heat pumps, and rainwater harvested for communal buildings.

A multi-purpose barn, cafe, and bar will be the first building to be constructed at the holiday park site.

The pre-fabricated holiday lodges will then be assembled inside the barn in the winter months.

In addition to the eco-lodges, a series of CGI images also depicted several footpaths and walking trails.

The plans have caused a stir among residents who are worried about the new park's proximity to the Gurnard Pines Holiday Village, as well as increased traffic in the area.

However, the Isle of Wight Council have said that the new park will complement the existing holiday village, with visitors being encouraged to use the facilities at both sites.

It is also hoped that the new holiday park will help the Island to become a year-round tourist destination.

Set within 55 acres of woodland, the Gurnard Pines Holiday Village already has several leisure facilities on its site.

It's not the only resort set to open in the UK, with Great Wolf Resort set to launch its first British park in Basingstoke.

There are more than 19 parks across the US and Canada and the new UK resort will have a 500-bedroom hotel on-site, as well as an entertainment centre with bowling alleys, arcades, and restaurants.

Elsewhere, Eurocamp has announced that it will be launching 57 new parks in time for the 2024 summer holidays.

There are currently 180 parks throughout Europe, mainly in France, although some are also found in Spain, Italy, Germany, Croatia, The Netherlands, Australia, Switzerland, and Luxembourg.

The new parks will open across popular regions of France, Spain, and Italy.
