The free ‘indoor rainforest’ attraction with giant exotic plants found in the middle of a UK city

EXPLORING the Amazon rainforest or going on an adventure in the jungles of Borneo might seem like impossible dreams for some.

But at the heart of a UK city there's a huge rainforest-like attraction, with hundreds of exotic plant species, that can be visited for free.

The Barbican conservatory in London is described as both a "utopia' and "a favourite" place for those living in the capital.

It's the perfect spot to enjoy some plant life in between the grey high-rise buildings and blocks of flats, with colourful flowers and towering tropical plants packed into a glass building.

The indoor garden is the second largest conservatory in the city, but it doesn't cost anything to enter, with guests able to meander around its walkways and paths at their leisure.

Small terrapins and exotic fish can be seen swimming in ponds inside, adding to the feeling that you're in a tropical landscape.

described it as the "perfect" place to go for a day out with family or friends, especially if you're looking for some relaxation.

They wrote: "It's a hidden tropical oasis in the heart of the City of London.

"Home to exotic fish and over 1,500 species of tropical plants and trees, a visit to Barbican Conservatory is the perfect way to enjoy a relaxing day out with friends and family."

Despite that, it remains a fairly well hidden spot for visitors, with just 21 reviews on TripAdvisor.

The majority of those are five star ratings, however, with most people saying it's well worth a visit.

One wrote: "It is so beautiful. Completely free too. Just that need to book the tickets in advance.

"Thoroughly recommend booking a free ticket, and enjoying the greenery amongst the concrete."

Another said: "Absolutely stunning conservatory, free of charge. You do need to book in advance but it is really worth the effort.

"They have an amazing succulents collection upstairs plus there is a bar and space for a drink. Such a hidden gem."

Some people love the space so much they have got married there, with the forest-like backdrop making the perfect unique setting for a wedding.
