It's now set to cost £50million, with new investors Stoneweg InfraSport, a new partnership between Stoneweg and Teras Capital, backing the project .

The main attraction will be a 5.4acre surf lagoon WaveGarden, creating 1,000 waves an hour up to two metres tall, along with lessons and rentals.

An urban beach would also be created, which will be the largest in Europe.

There will also be an outdoor heated pool, as well as a skateboarding track and outdoor playground.

Restaurants, a coffee shop, retail stores and a co-working space would also be on-site.

Miguel de Lucas, managing partner at Teras Capital, said: "This project will not only provide access to urban surfing for millions of people, but will also become an international benchmark in terms of the facilities and entertainment offering for visitors.”

Jaume Sabater, CEO of Stoneweg, added: “This project will see Stoneweg to combine its real estate expertise and commitment to social impact through the delivery of a ground-breaking new development that brings one of the world’s most popular sports to the UK’s second largest metropolitan area."

If it goes ahead, it hopes to open by the end of 2025 as the largest of it's kind in the UK, with around 200,000 visitors a year.

It will be around an hour from Birmingham, and ticket prices are yet to be revealed.

If you can't wait until then, you can visit Coventry's The Wave, which opened in 2019 which is home to an indoor pool and slides.

And it isn't the only wave attraction hoping to open in the UK, with The Wave in Bristol one of the first to ever open in 2019.

A similar £55million attraction will open near Edinburgh this year with beachfront and surf lagoon.

Also similar is the £50million The Seahive in Deal near Kent, which will have a wave pool, splash area and hotel.

The Seahive founder Jim Storey said he created the project due to Kent's lack of surf, despite it's long coastline.

He said: "Kent is not renowned for its surfing at all, in fact, a lot of people who love surfing drive six hours to Cornwall or hop on a flight somewhere abroad."

But the biggest water attraction set to open in the UK is Therme Manchester.
