PAR FOR THE COURSE

The US-style golf attraction coming to the UK with 18 hole course, pizza shack and bar

And the other American-themed attractions in the UK

AN American style golf attraction inspired by Tiger Woods is coming to the UK.

High end crazy golf is growing in popularity in the US, especially thanks to a company co-owned by the veteran golf champ.

The attraction was inspired by PopStroke courses that have become popular in the US

Tiger’s PopStroke promises visitors a “family-friendly golf and outdoor dining experience” featuring putting courses designed by the golfer himself.

The courses are similar to the kind you’d see at a proper golf club, rather than those with whimsical holes and obstacles at crazy golf places.

Alongside the golf games are bars and restaurants, providing a full day out for those playing.

As well as growing in popularity in the states, the golf entertainment sites have caught the eye of a UK-based business man, who is set to open one of his own in Wales.

He’s even chosen a name similar to the courses in America, naming his course PuttStroke, to show that the attraction will offer a similar experience.

Matthew Wharton is opening the site on Anglesey.

Once up and running, it will have a new 18th hole bar and events building with outside seating and a grill restaurant.

That will join Popty Pizza, which is already on site at his Golf Môn site where he is building the attraction.

The course will be flood-lit, offering later opening hours than most golf courses, meaning it can be an evening out as well as daytime activity.

Matthew told the : “I’m taking inspiration from several of the mini golf courses designed by Tiger Woods and his team.

“The mini golf course will be floodlight, enabling us to stay open until late in the summer so that people can continue playing while others sit outside or dine in the bar and grill.

“In the long run, we aim to be the number one attraction on Anglesey.”

To add to the upmarket experience that he’s trying to offer, Matthew has promised to use high-quality Astroturf for his fairways and synthetic grass for the rough, providing an authentic golf feeling.

Some of his fairways will be as long as 20 metres, with steep banked boundaries removing the need for concrete between each hole.

Unlike ordinary crazy golf games, there will be no obstacles at PuttStroke, meaning just skill will be required.

When it opens it won’t be the only American-style attraction in the UK, with another opening elsewhere this year.

Thorpe Park is treating visitors to a brand new US-style land called Big Easy Boulevard, which is replacing the Angry Birds Land that was closed over the winter.

The New Orleans-themed area will have rides, food and drink and a 4D cinema for visitors to enjoy.

There are other new attractions launching at the theme park this year too, including brand new rollercoaster Hyperia.

When it opens, the new ride will be both the biggest and fastest in the UK.

While an official opening date hasn’t yet been announced, the final piece of track has been put in place.

Meanwhile, these new attractions are set to open in the UK this year.

And Alton Towers has confirmed that one of its rides is going to close this summer.
