Plans for the proposed Rhydycar West in Merthyr Tydfil were first submitted at the beginning of last year.

However, new concept pictures now provide more of an insight into what the resort could look like.

Ahead of the initial proposals being submitted, Rhydycar West's bosses outlined the big plans they have for the 575-acre site, which is situated on a former coal mine.

They said that the £300m scheme would be home to some of Europe's "most exciting and innovative leisure attractions," with an indoor tropical waterpark and an indoor and outdoor adventure centre.

Those attractions would be "supported by a range of accommodation" with outdoor woodland lodges sitting alongside a hotel with sport, family, and luxury spa facilities.

Developers claimed they want to create "a unique and unparalleled experience for visitors of all ages, making Rhydycar West a must-visit 'all year round' destination for both local and international tourists".

Additionally, the plans also include the UK’s largest and longest indoor snow centre, with hopes it would become a headquarters for the Team GB snow sports teams.

It would conform to international standards, while also attracting international competitions and events.

While the new concept pictures don't provide a great deal more information about what could be coming, they do show how the resort could look, with the snow centre and waterpark clearly visible.

Work is still in progress on developing the park, following some delays, however it is thought that process will be concluded soon.

The Welsh resort is just one of several holiday parks being planned across the UK at the moment.

Preston

The old Goosnargh Golf Club in Preston hasn't been used since 2019 and could be the site of a brand new holiday resort.

More than 100 lodges are among the facilities due to be built at the resort, along with a swimming pool, a spa, a gym, a restaurant are and a small on-site farm shop.

Each of the holiday lodges will have its own decked area and open space outside, while inside they will have either two or three bedrooms.

There will also be a kitchen/living/dining space, a bathroom, a utility room and other spaces.

Loch Lomond

A new £40m project, part of theme park Flamingo Land's new plans to build on Loch Lomond, could see a new mega resort with a waterpark, a hotel and even a monorail.

Flamingo Land was given permission to develop a new resort on the land back in 2016.

The resort, to be called Lomond Banks, would have a large leisure centre with a swimming pool, waterpark and spa as the main attraction.

There would also be an apart-hotel with 60 rooms, as well as a budget hotel with 32 beds.
