Instead, passengers should look into wearing leggings and a jacket, or loungewear sets.

Conde wrote: "This isn’t the time to wear stiff jeans, nor is it the place to wear any old sweatpants, just because they are comfortable.

"The best outfit to wear on a plane is one that feels comfortable and yet still looks put together. A soft pair of leggings with a jacket is a failsafe formula, [or] a matching loungewear set."

The other clothing mistake that passengers regularly make on flights is to wear trainers, or shoes that don't slip on and off easily.

They added: " I never wear trainers on a long flight, as I inevitably want to slip them off (being sure to keep my socks on), only to have to crouch down and tie up the laces every time I need to get up.

"Make life easier by opting for a lightweight slip-on shoe, and team it with a cosy bed sock or compression sock if you're prone to swelling."
