Getting around Marmaris

Marmaris is a nice size to explore on foot but if the heat gets a bit much or you want to venture further afield, there are other travel options available.

The cheapest way to get around, if you’re prepared for a bit of a squeeze, is by using the ‘dolls’ minibuses. Favoured by locals, these packed vehicles stick to set routes and can be flagged down in the street. Fares and destinations are usually displayed above the driver’s head. Marmaris also has a great bus network for visiting other towns in the area. Three bus companies operate out of the town’s bus station, which can be found in the northeast of the town. Fares are affordable.

Car or motorbike hire is a great option if you want to explore the Turquoise Coast, and there are some stunning roads to explore. Look out for scooters and narrow mountain roads, and don’t forget to drive on the right.

Marmaris has a sizeable fleet of taxis, which run around the clock. Day rates are cheaper and most taxis will use a meter – although it’s worth agreeing a fare before you get in. 15% tips are the norm. During the summer, ferries and catamarans run every day, linking Marmaris with the Greek island of Rhodes. With a journey time of around an hour this can be a great day trip destination.
