Tripadvisor reveals the best value holidays for Brits – from short-haul in Gran Canaria to long-haul in Dubai
Holidaymakers yet to book their summer break can find the least expensive week to visit the most popular destinations
GRAN Canaria and Benidorm are the top value destinations among British holiday favourites this summer.
A week at both of the Spanish locations are on average £1,000 per person cheaper than Ibiza – the number one short-haul destination for Brits.
The results come from a new report by that charts the top 10 long-haul and short-haul destinations based on the biggest interest from Brits and the average one-week holiday costs for hotels and flights.
The results could help holidaymakers yet to book a summer break find the least expensive week to visit.
When comparing the average cost of a week’s holiday among the top ten short-haul destinations across the whole of the summer season, Benidorm offers the best value overall at £1,190 per person.
However, when looking at the lowest cost possible for just one week, Gran Canaria is best value, with holidaymakers paying £983 per person on flights and a holiday on June 19.
By avoiding the peak travel period in July and visiting in June, Brits can save 194 per cent on the cost of a hotel and flights.

When it comes to the top ten long-haul destinations for Brits, Bangkok is the cheapest overall.
The average cost of a week’s holiday comes in at £1,144 per person, and a week costs just £973 per person if travelling at the end of May.
Dubai and the Maldives are the two most expensive top long-haul holidays, but huge savings can still be had if holidaymakers are savvy about when to travel.
For instance, when travelling to Dubai on June 12, Brits can save 177 per cent compared to prices in July.
In the case of the Maldives, a saving of 134 per cent could be made if travelling on June 5 instead of three weeks later.
Hayley Coleman, TripAdvisor spokesperson said: “Travellers who choose their travel dates carefully when planning a trip abroad this summer stand a chance of picking up some major savings.
“For example, a holiday in Gran Canaria during the week of the 19th of June costs £375 per person less than the average week’s cost over the rest of the summer – that’s more than the cost of a flight to Malta.”
