Bizarre object spotted floating in sky above Cornwall is splashed across social media… but all is not as it seems
IF aliens did eventually decide to invade earth, it's tough to predict where they'd head for first.
This week, UFO spotters reckoned they had the answer - England's own West Country - after people started sharing footage of a mysterious looking object floating along the coast.
Over the last couple of days the strange, shimmering black object has been spotted over Truro city centre, Carluddon clay tip, Fistral beach in Newquay, over the A30, above Roche Rock and by a surfer in the sea off the Cornish coast.
But the little green men weren't tempted to Padstow by the promise of Rick Stein's posh fish and chips after all.
The sightings were all part of a giant spoof by Cornwall's Eden Project, who had enlisted locals to share the footage online.
The attraction launches its new Journey Into Space attraction on Thursday, July 27, and the various spottings are all part of a big publicity stunt.
The first to spot it was surfer Kiefer Krishnan, who caught it on his Go-Pro camera, which he posted on his Instagram account on Monday.
Photographer Shayne House then spotted the weird object, which appears to disappear and re-materialise, over the A30, declaring on Twitter: "What the?! Is this an alien spacecraft over the A30?"
Harry Wild, who works in food marketing, was the next to upload footage of the unexplained object over Fistral beach on Monday and asked on Twitter is anyone else had seen it.
There were three more sightings on Tuesday, with many people commenting on social media that it looked like a swarm of birds or insects.

But sadly we haven't made contact with life forms on another planet just yet, it's just an elaborate hoax.
A spokesperson for Eden told Sun Online: "It's true we have a galaxy of ways to tell the story of space at Eden this summer.
"To coin a phrase … 'The truth is out there'."
