Thomas Cook pilots to stage 24-hour strike today following pay row
The walkout follows several days of failed talks after action earlier this month and two further strikes are currently scheduled for September 29 and October 6
PILOTS at Thomas Cook will stage a 24-hour strike today in a dispute over pay and further walkouts are planned.
Members of the British Airline Pilots’ Association will take action after several days of talks failed to break the deadlock.
It follows a walkout earlier this month, while two more 24-hour strikes are pencilled in for September 29 and October 6.
Balpa general secretary Brian Strutton said: "Tortuous negotiations at Acas have failed to resolve the pay dispute.
"Whilst both sides have compromised there is still a considerable gap. Regrettably this means the strike goes ahead.
"We understand this strike will affect people's travel plans, something which we deeply regret.
A Thomas Cook spokesman said: "We are disappointed that Balpa has decided to go ahead with the strike.
"Meanwhile, our priority is to make sure all of our customers can travel with minimum disruption during the strike period.
Thomas Cook said all its scheduled flights would be operating today.
