Inside New York’s most luxurious hotel for DOGS – with pedicures, double beds and dog-friendly TV
Nothing is too good for the pampered pooches of New York's elite. With a private chef, gym and 24-hour care, this canine hotel is better than plenty of human accommodation
WE often wonder how the other half lives, but have you ever thought about how their pets enjoy all that wealth? It turns out their holidays are just as flashy as their high-flying owners.
D Pet Hotels in Chelsea, New York is a hotel built entirely for dogs, and its rooms and services are fit for the world’s most pampered pups.
Even the most luxurious kennels can't compare to the facilities at D Pet, where dogs are spoilt with private chef-prepared meals, spa treatments and chauffeur-driven rides.
Prices match quite closely to regular hotels (for people), with basic suites starting at around £64 per night, which includes an orthopaedic bed, TV, and 24-hour care.
The hotel boasts a number of famous clients, including the pooches of global music and movie stars.
For these guests, D Pet offers an "uber" suite, fitted with a double bed and 42-inch TV playing doggie-friendly programming - and prices start at a cool £153 a night.
Pups enjoy playtime at the several indoor dog parks, rest and relaxation with bedtime stories read to them when it’s time for a lie down, and pedicures if they require a little extra pampering.
The hotel even has its own specialised canine gym to keep the dogs active and in line with their usual routine.
Unfortunately, the hotel isn't open to just any old doggo.
Any potential guest must first pass a set of tests to make sure they have the right temperament to mix with the "canine elite".
Co-owner of D Pet Hotels, Kerry Brown, said: “We have dogs that come in for daycare with parents who are attorneys or bankers.
“We’ve got a pop star princess who uses us, and some famous movie actors, so we are fortunate to get to care for that client as well.
“We’ve got a lot of regular clients who only want to use 'uber' suites for their dogs because they want their dog to feel as much at home as possible - they are nicer than my bedroom at home."
She continued: “Certainly they have very catered meals for them, such as fresh chicken with rice and vegetables.
"We’ve even had to place treats on the dog’s pillow before bedtime."
D Pet Hotels also has locations in Texas, Arizona and California, and offers grooming and day care services.
