Flybe pilot has passengers in fits of giggles with comedy welcome message
The wise-cracking captain poked fun at both his flying ability and the quality of cabin crew before the plane took off
THE temptation to crack a few jokes over the tannoy must be strong for pilots - and one finally succumbed on a recent Flybe flight.
The wise-cracking captain had the passengers in giggles as he poked fun at both his flying ability and the quality of cabin crew before the plane took off.
The pilot of the low-cost European airline started: "Welcome aboard, you’ll fly this service direct to the beautiful sunny island of Palma de Majorca."
The only thing was, they were not flying to the vibrant resort city in Spain - they were flying to Exeter.
He continued: “Oh, sorry, no, my fault, I’ve got the wrong day again. That’s tomorrow. This evening — wait for it, it is even more exciting — we are going to Exeter.”
“We’ve been looking at the maps, hopefully we have got the map the right way around. We think we should head right after take off."
He added: “Luckily for you lot I’m not doing anymore driving this evening. I’ve done my flying for the day — it wasn’t pretty so I’m going to refrain from that for the rest of the evening.
“I’m going to hand the reins over to the man himself, my colleague on the right hand side, his name is Steve Moore ... He’s just been telling me actually on the way down that he hasn’t yet had a bad landing in his entire career so lots to look forward to.”
But it wasn’t just himself he poked fun at, as he cracked jokes about the cabin crew as he introduced them to passengers.
“Anyway ladies and gents, you are not here because you need to get to the UK. You are here because you’ve done your research and you’ve worked out that here at Flybe, we pride ourselves on employing some of the very finest cabin crew this industry has to offer. I’m sorry to say they are all on annual leave,” he quipped as the cabin erupted with laughter.
