The Christmas items you can’t take on a plane with you – including crackers and cheese

BEFORE you head to the airport this Christmas, make sure to double-check the rules about what you can take in your hand luggage.

There are a number of festive items you may not realise are not allowed into the cabin - and will be taken away from you at security.

To avoid you having your gifts and festivities confiscated at security, compiled a list of all the Christmas items that are prohibited from your hand luggage.

From Camembert cheese to cranberry sauce for your turkey, some of the items may surprise you.

Read on to see what is banned from cabin luggage this Christmas.

Camembert cheese

Due to its consistency, this popular French cheese is banned from the inside of a plane cabin.

The cheese can turn from a solid into liquid mid-way through the flight, which could see you in trouble for breaching the 100ml liquid limit for carry-on.

Corkscrews

They might a great last-minute novelty gift for the in-laws, but corkscrews are certain to be confiscated by security.

For obvious reasons, a corkscrew could be considered a weapon, so be sure to stow it in your checked luggage.

Cranberry Sauce, jams, honey and syrups

Airlines will let you take your turkey on the plane with you, but you will have to enjoy it without sauce - unless you managed to find a jar of it that was less than 100ml to abide by the liquid rules.

Jams, honey and syrups are also classified as liquids, so the festive condiments are likely to be taken off you at the gate.

Christmas crackers

Some airlines will allow you to bring a sealed box of Christmas crackers on the plane, but because they contain a tiny amount of gunpowder, most will ask you to check them in with your luggage.

To avoid disappointment and make sure you get to keep your cringe-worthy festive jokes, leave them out of your hand luggage.

This is also the same for party poppers which can't be in hand luggage or checked luggage.

Christmas wreaths

Anyone hoping to bring back some classic decorations from abroad, trees and wreaths will be confiscated at customs unless they are sprayed for contamination.

Customs allows just one tree or wreath per person to be brought back into the UK and even then only if it's from Europe or the Mediterranean.

Christmas trees must also be less than three metres in height if you are to get them through border checks.

Wrapped presents

While you can take wrapped presents onboard, don't spend too long on some fancy wrapping.
