Primera Air is an Icelandic airline that mainly operates in Scandinavia, but it is now branching out into the UK market.

The airline had previously announced cheap flights from Birmingham to Boston, but was forced to cancel some of its flights for this summer last week due to a lack of bookings.

While the Birmingham to Boston route has now been cancelled, the airline will still fly from Newark to London Stansted and Birmingham.

Newark Liberty International Airport serves the state of New Jersey and the greater New York metropolitan area.

Any added extras add considerably to the ticket cost though, with in-flight food costing £30 for a meal per passenger

Round trips on these routes can be snapped up for as little as £271, as UK to US flights cost from £149 and the return leg is on offer from £121.

The airline will start operating the flights from April.

The bargain prices are the ultimate no-frills fares though, as any added extras will add significantly to the ticket cost.

For example, a 23kg bag in the hold costs £25, and seat reservations cost from £22 to £55.

Travellers will probably want to reserve the £55 extra legroom seats too, as the standard seats have the same space as on a Ryanair flight.

In-flight food is also particular pricey, costing £30 for a meal per passenger.

The airline is following in the footsteps of Norwegian and WOW Air, who have both started to offer super-cheap transatlantic flights in recent years.
