Air New Zealand launches genius add-ons for parents to make flying with babies and children much less stressful
FLYING with kids is about to get a whole lot easier in economy – if you’re travelling on Air New Zealand.
The airline is adding to its existing child-friendly products on board to make travel that bit easier for parents.
The airline brought out the Skycouch idea in 2011, which is a row of three seats that converts into a “flat, flexible surface for rest, relaxation and play”.
While initially aimed at couples, it’s now being updated so that two children can lie down on it and nap side-by-side – even when the plane has its seat belt sign on.
Kids on the Skycouch can now be left to sleep even when the plane is cruising, and will be safely belted in, too, with a dedicated infants harness and belt to be used while they are lying down.
Air New Zealand General Manager Customer Experience Anita Hawthorne said: "The Skycouch has proven to be a real game changer in the economy cabin.
“While we initially marketed it to couples, we quickly found the product suited parents with young families especially well.
“Parents can relax while their children are able to have their own space and flat area to play without interrupting other passengers.
"Through this process, we've spoken to many customers who have travelled on the Skycouch.
"Their feedback has helped to inform the updates and refinements we’re introducing this year."

The airline hopes to have the designs approved and ready to use in the next few months.
