How to open a bottle without an opener – hotel guest discovers genius way to pop beer cap
By pressing the bottom of the cap against the metal edge of a fire door hinge, the cap can be eased off the bottle
AFTER a busy day of sightseeing, there's nothing better than relaxing in your hotel room with a cold beer.
But often the opener is nowhere to be found - thanks to light-fingered previous guests or stingy management.
One traveller has now come up with a genius solution though - using the hinge on the door to pop the cap.
Most hotels are equipped with fire doors these days, that come with a visible hinge at the top of the door.
By pressing the bottom of the cap against the metal edge, the cap can be eased off the bottle.
The who discovered the trick goes by the username Albert Dumblestein and they said: "About two minutes after realising there was no bottle opener in my hotel room I discovered this gem and it works like a charm."
They added: "I'd say about 50 per cent of the ones I stay in have [a bottle opener], and I remember to bring one 0 per cent of the time.
"I can always get one open with a key which was my plan B, but... this was like it was made for it."
If you have a bottle of wine that needs opening , there are also plenty of ways to get the cork out if you don't have a corkscrew.
Recently, Sun Online Travel also revealed that huge numbers of people don't pay for their minibar drinks if they deny consuming them when checking out.

Jacob Tomsky, author of Heads In Beds, a Reckless Memoir of Hotels, Hustles and So-Called Hospitality, told : “Minibar charges are, without question, the most disputed charges on any bill. That is because the process for applying those charges is horribly inexact.
“Keystroke errors, delays in restocking, double stocking, and hundreds of other missteps make minibar charges the most voided item.
"Even before guests can manage to get through half of the ‘I never had those items’ sentence, I have already removed the charges."
