Experts at Expedia have found how timing is the most important thing to bagging a bargain online

DON'T just book your holiday you have a minute, because when you book can affect how much you pay.

New research from travel comparison website Expedia and Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) has found that booking a hotel on a Friday can save holidaymakers the most money.

The report analysed pricing trends for flights and hotels to work out when Brits can get a bargain.

They found that the best way to save money is to book holidays at the correct time.

For example, prices for rooms on Friday are the cheapest, compared to Sunday when they are at their highest.

For flights, they should be booked at least three weeks ahead of departure, according to the research.

The report warned that booking flights closer to the date of travel is risky, as "waiting to book at the last minute can be an expensive gamble."

The "sweet spot" for booking cheap flights was, on average, found to be 21 days before travelling.

Flights should be booked at the weekend, despite the common misconception that booking mid-week is the best way to save the pennies.

Economy and premium class seats were lowest price when booked on a Sunday, with up to 36 per cent saving to be made.

The most expensive time to book flights? Thursday and Friday.

These two days are the best days to fly however, with the cheapest tickets found towards the end of the week, compared to Saturday, which is the highest.

Brits wanting to maximise their holiday in 2019 can double their annual leave by booking certain days of the year, Sun Online reported.

If travelling over the Easter Break, booking April 15 to April 18 and April 23 to April 26 will give you 16 days off in a row while only using eight days of annual leave thanks to the bank holiday days in between.

Sun Online Travel previously revealed how to get the best deal when booking a holiday depending on the destination.

According to TripAdvisor, a holiday to New York should be booked within one month of travelling to get the best bargain, while Dubai is cheapest when booking three months ahead.
