How to make sure you have the right travel insurance before heading to America
IT can be tricky planning holidays and flights around medical conditions.
Reader Robert Cooksey emailed in with his dilemma.
Q. Two years ago I was diagnosed with asthma. I want to go to Las Vegas but all travel insurance quotes are over £1,000.
I think this is because, at Christmas, I needed oxygen after a bad reaction to taking Ibuprofen. Do you know a company I can try? Robert Cooksey, via email.
A. You are not alone. The King’s Fund’s research found at least 15million Brits are living with a long-term health condition.
And travelling to the US, it is ESSENTIAL to have good-quality cover as access to healthcare there is horribly expensive.
Before you start to look for insurance, have a chat with your GP and make a note of all your medical conditions over the past few years and medication you are taking so you can give comprehensive information and reduce the risk of having your insurance invalidated if something goes wrong.
You must always declare everything – not doing so to save money will only end in disaster.
Enable Travel Insurance Services specialises in providing cover for people with pre-existing medical conditions, of which it provides cover for more than 1,300.
You can either fill in a relatively easy form online or chat to them direct to discuss a range of premium prices.
