EasyJet staff share top plane tips like sitting at front if you’re nervous and being careful where you change your baby’s nappy
EAST JET staff have shared their top plane tips for flyers as thousands of Brits prepare to travel during the busy holiday season.
One former staff member shared his on-board secrets, including advice to sit up front if you’re nervous and to be careful where you change your baby’s nappy.
Where to sit
Matt, who worked for the airline between 2016 and 2018, spoke with about his recommendations of where to sit.
He advised: "If you’re a nervous flyer or feel uneasy with turbulence, then sit as close to the front of the plane as possible.
"If you like turbulence and feeling everything then sit near the back of the plane.
"If you like the extra legroom, then the first row or emergency exit rows are good but be prepared to not have anything on the floor where you’re sat as you’re only allowed stuff in the overhead lockers.
"The floor has to be clear in case an emergency evacuation is needed."
Cabin baggage
A quick tip to clear up space in overhead lockers is watch where you place coats and bags.
Matt advised: "Coats can go on top of bags and place your bags in wheels first.
"Pack your essentials into your hand luggage. Things like medication, passport, money, phone etc should be in your hand luggage."
When going through security, follow the instructions for taking liquids and double check beforehand to avoid losing time waiting while security staff sort through your bags.
"Things like laptops and iPads need to be in a separate tray to everything else in your hand luggage.
"You’d be amazed how much quicker security is if you are prepared and act accordingly."
Changing nappies
The tipster cautioned: "You don’t know who has sat in the seat where you’re trying to change your baby."
Dirt from previous passengers may be lingering on seats so the best bet would be baby changing facilities available in almost all toilets on planes.
It also means you can change your baby and dispose of the nappy in privacy.
Handing crew members a soiled nappy means they may have to later provide first aid, serve food and drink and meet and greet passengers ... with a dirty hand.
Rudeness
Matt says: "Cabin Crew are not there to lift into the overhead locker.
"Whilst crew will help to avoid delays, if you have packed everything but the kitchen sink into your hand luggage and then wait for the crew to lift it into the overhead, don’t be surprised if it gets tagged and put in the hold.
"If a member of the crew gets hurt lifting people’s bags into the overhead, then expect delays as the crew member will need to be replaced by a standby crew member."
He stresses: "Cabin Crew are human beings, they have feelings and they want you to have the best flight ever.
"They’re not there to be demeaned, harassed or assaulted.

"They are there for your safety and security and if they you’re nice to them then they are more than likely to go out of their way to make sure you have an awesome flight.
"Even little things like saying hello, goodbye and smiling at crew members can have a big impact on their day.
"You don’t know what they’ve dealt with on the previous flights and a showing some simple manners and a smile can turn a bad day into a good day for them and yourselves."
