The 100 boss says Clarke was devastated after hearing of Bellamy’s supposed death

Bellamy’s alleged final moments took place in the fifth episode of the seventh series when he appeared to be killed following an explosion set off by one of the disciples.

Octavia was pulled from the wreckage but the other characters Echo, Hope and Gabriel assume that Bellamy did not make it out alive and would tell Clarke later on.

Commentiong on Clarke, Rothenberg told : “She’s devastated by the news that Bellamy is dead.

“[She’s] not quite sure in that moment if it’s true. She semi-trusts Gabriel, but her whole mission this season has been about keeping her family together, not losing anybody else.

“She’s going to spend a while reeling from it, along with everybody else.”

Viewers did not witness Clarke’ reaction to her friend’s supposed death until the episode after she was informed, which was directed by Raven Reyes star Lindsey Morgan.

The 30-year-old previously revealed she had wanted the character to fall to her knees after hearing the devastating news, but decided to scrap that idea in order to make Eliza Taylor feel more empowered in the scene.

Lindsey tweeted after the episode aired: “I realised later, this was a mistake on my end.

“I was taking away Eliza’s agency as an actress to be free in her choice (of movement, no movement, etc.) [because] I selfishly wanted to do a cool shot. An important lesson I learned throughout my process!”

Morgan explained the decision by stating it’s “always a stronger directorial choice to stay on an actor’s face” during emotional scenes.

She added: “Sometimes, unnecessary movement or a fancy camera move will take away the gravitas of the moment.”
