After hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman gave their thank you speeches via video, the four judges also shared their delight from their respective homes.

But when Bruno, 64, came on the screen, he no longer had the dark brown locks Strictly fans are used to seeing.

Instead, he had decided to give Phillip Schofield a run for his money as the ultimate silver fox with a full head of grey hair.

Viewers couldn't believe his transformation, with one writing on Twitter: "Wondering if Bruno will show his grey hair on the next series of Strictly? #BaftaTV."

Another added alongside a gif of Pam from Gavin and Stacey saying 'Oh My Christ': "Seeing Bruno's hair..."

A third debated the shade of Bruno's new hair, writing: "Brunos blonde highlights #BaftaTV."

The show's win comes after it was confirmed the 2020 series will be delayed by nearly a month because of the Covid-19 crisis.

BBC bosses have pushed back the start date to October — meaning the biggest programme on TV will have a shorter run.

It is likely to consist of nine or ten shows — compared to 13 last year, when actor Kelvin Fletcher won the title with partner Oti Mabuse.

As a result, producers are planning to have fewer celebrities and professional dancers taking part.
