Channel 4’s Ackley Bridge to resume season 4 filming next month with Coronation Street legend joining cast
CHANNEL 4’S Ackley Bridge is to resume filming season four next month as it’s confirmed Corrie legend Connor McIntyre will be joining the cast.
This new series will comprise of ten 30-minute episodes, to be aired across two weeks in an earlier evening slot in 2021.
The show, inspired by real-life Lancashire and Yorkshire schools established to integrate the white and Asian communities in some of the most divided towns in the country, has won praise across its previous three series.
Channel 4 confirmed the series would resume and be back with some brand-new faces.
One of them will be ex-Corrie actor Connor McIntyre, who played villain Pat Phelan and will guest star as new boy Johnny’s granddad.
Johnny, played by Ryan Dean, is a cocky, good-looking member of the traveller community who is deeply suspicious of school.
Ackley Bridge series is produced by The Forge and will resume filming in Halifax next month with Covid-secure measures in place.
Originally titled The ABC, Ackley Bridge tells the story of a school in a Yorkshire town of the same name.
The story follows two comprehensive schools that are forced to merge due to budget cuts.

However, trouble arises as one school is predominantly white, while the other is an Asian-led comprehensive - and the communities are for the most part separated from each other.
Building upon the first series, the second series will explore some difficult issues such as Nas’s need to balance her traditional background with her modern sexual and emotional identity.
It will also touch on the issues of threats from gangs, squeezed budgets, failing students and strained relationships both at school and at home.
