Doctor Who to reboot lost Dalek episodes from 1960s alongside main series next year
DOCTOR Who is to reboot lost Dalek episodes from the 1960s alongside the main series next year.
Two episodes starring Patrick Troughton as the second Time Lord - The Evil of the Daleks and The Abominable Snowmen - were wiped by the BBC.
The Corporation used to delete programmes to create more archive space between 1967 and 1978, which lead to 97 of the first 253 episodes of Doctor Who going missing.
With copies of The Evil of the Daleks and The Abominable Snowmen nowhere to be found, the BBC has now commissioned an animation team to complete them with the aid of photos and soundtrack recordings.
This isn't the first time lost episodes have been turned into animation, with previous efforts receiving plenty of praise.
A source told of the latest animation project: "It’s such a clever way of recreating these lost treasures.
"Die-hard fans from yesteryear, plus the new generation of Whovians, will be super excited.”
Last month, Doctor Who fans were given their first look at the special edition release of The Power of the Daleks.
No complete film recordings of The Power of the Daleks are known to have survived the purge of the BBC’s archive in 1975.
The Power of the Daleks was second Doctor Patrick Troughton's first adventure in 1966, but it has now been brought back to life in a high definition animated series.

The special edition release also includes surviving footage from the original Power of the Daleks serial from 1966, offering a rare glance at this now lost story, plus the original Doctor Who soundtrack at the end.
It also features an interview with Mike Tucker from visual effects, which forms part of the ‘Behind the Scene’ documentary in disc 2.
