Peaky Blinders fans convinced Tommy and Michael have secret plan to take down Mosley – and their feud is all for show

PEAKY Blinders' fifth season saw the Shelby family torn apart by infighting.

Michael Gray (Finn Cole) and Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) clashed in the BBC drama's latest string of episodes as the youngster proposed that Tommy handed over the family business to him and focus on smuggling opium into the US.

A furious Tommy shut down the idea and sent Michael on his way, but some fans think there could be more to the feud than meets the eye.

Taking to Reddit, a group of dedicated viewers speculated that Tommy and Michael's rivalry was all for show and intended to distract from a master plan to topple British fascist Oswald Mosley.

User DEADPOOL443 kickstarted the discussion, predicting: “Michael isn't a traitor but is working with Tommy to take down Mosley.

“Gina knew Mosley's name before being told and couldn't take her eyes off him while he was making the speech at the wedding, she's a spy for Mosley.”

The post quickly generated plenty of upvoted and like-minded messages from fans.

A second user echoed: “I love this theory. I could also see this as part of Tommy's plan to expand into America.

“By infiltrating the drug trade and then taking it for the Shelbys. Playing the long game.”

Meanwhile a third wrote: “I’m always curious about a new girl when she shows up.

“I even thought Linda would be a spy and will make a big plot twist, so of course I don't trust Gina, especially because she's so cold and arrogant. How could Michael [have] even fallen for her?”

Meanwhile a fourth theorised: “Not sure about Michael’s deal but Gina is surely up to something bad.”

Given how the closing moments of the season 5 finale saw Tommy weigh up suicide, no doubt he'll need all the allies he can get.

The comments come after Michael actor Finn Cole teased a ‘downfall and addiction battle’ for the character in season 6.

Meanwhile his co-star and on-screen mother Helen McCrory, who plays Polly Gray, admitted that Polly had played a pivotal role in Michael's corruption and felt conflicted about who to side with in the power struggle to come.

Peaky Blinders seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Netflix now.
