WWE legend John Cena bags Suicide Squad spin-off show Peacemaker tracking villain’s bid to wipe out mankind
WWE legend John Cena has secured a Suicide Squad spin-off show Peacemaker, which tracks the superhero's quest to destroy mankind.
The actor has already secured a role the next Suicide Squad film, but now Cena will make his debut as a superhero in director James Gunn's upcoming Suicide Squad sequel as Peacemaker.
Gunn announced that the brand new superhero will embark on a never-ending mission to obliterate everyone to achieve peace.
As well as directing, James will also write the series and will fit it into a busy schedule for the superheroes, which includes Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy's vol 3.
Cena, 43, took to Twitter to share his thoughts on his new role.
Grateful as ever, the 16-time WWE World champion wrote: "Working alongside @JamesGunn on #SuicideSquad was an absolute masterclass in how to best bring beloved characters to life in a new and fun way.
"I cannot wait for the #DCUniverse to experience more of absurdity that is the Peacemaker in this new project on @hbomax !!!"
James Gunn shared on Instagram: "I’m over-the-moon excited to be working on #PEACEMAKER with my pals @johncena & #TheSuicideSquad producer Peter Safran on this new @hbomax original series from @warnerbrostv @dccomics."
Peacemaker is one of the newest members of the Suicide Squad, joining the likes of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) and leader Amanda Waller (Viola Davis).

Peacemaker follows the announcement earlier this year that The Batman has a spin-off series that HBO Max are developing for director Matt Reeves, which will take place within the Gotham City police department.
John Cena made his WWE debut in 2002 and went on to have one of the greatest careers in the history of professional wrestling.
The last time John appeared in the WWE was in a Firefly funhouse match against 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36, which he lost.
The Suicide Squad is currently due for release on August 6, 2021.
