The Walking Dead: World Beyond boss promises answers about where Rick Grimes was taken after helicopter rescue

THE Walking Dead's latest spin-off series could answer one of the biggest questions of the entire franchise - what happened to Rick Grimes?

As the leading man for the majority of the show's run, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) captivated audiences and left many devastated when he made his exit from the AMC zombie drama.

Viewers will remember how Rick was airlifted away by a mysterious helicopter after sustaining serious injuries.

He nearly lost his life after blowing up a bridge swarming with walkers, saving his community in the process.

According to the showrunner for The Walking Dead: World Beyond, fans can expect to find out more about where Rick was taken.

"I can't really spoil yes or no, but I will say that you will get answers as to potentially where Rick was taken," she told .

"I think that we'll also get answers in terms of why he was taken there," she went on.

"But more importantly, it's really about exploring this world that's going to open up, and it will fit in, in a very important way, with some mythology that was set up in the initial episode of The Walking Dead."

World Beyond isn't the only breakout set to explore Rick Grimes' fate - he'll also be at the centre of the upcoming movie trilogy.

Jadis actress Pollyanna McIntosh echoed the sentiment, promising resolution about "what happened beyond the helicopter" in the films.

The comments come after actress Alexa Mansour revealed she sobbed for two hours straight during her "gruelling" audition for the lead role.

The Walking Dead's season 10 finale will air as a special episode on Monday, October 5 on FOX in the UK and previous episodes are available to stream on NOW TV.

In the US, the season 10 finale will air on Sunday, October 4 at 9pm on AMC.
