'TRAUMA AND HEARTBREAK'

Fear the Walking Dead confirms Morgan’s tragic fate in season 6 premiere after brutal run-in with Ginny

FEAR the Walking Dead kicked off its sixth season this week and wasted no time answering the question on everyone's lips - was Morgan still alive?

The AMC spin-off series left viewers aghast with its season 5 finale, which implied Morgan, played by Lennie James, may be eaten alive by zombies after being gunned down by Virigina, aka Ginny (Colby Minifie).

Ginny had split Morgan's group among her own community, placing them where she felt best served her agenda, much to their horror.

In what looked to be his final moments, Morgan urged his friends to "just live" as he tried to drag himself away from the approaching undead.

Fortunately the season 6 premiere confirmed that Morgan had escaped with his life, albeit in bad shape.

It turns out the bullet he was shot with is still inside him and his eyes are seriously bloodshot.

"Morgan is such a pivotal hero in the Walking Dead universe, starting with the pilot of the mothership show, and we've seen him go through so many evolutions and traumas and heartbreaks. He's had a lot of reinventions along the way," he went on.

"So what really excited us between the end of season 5 and the beginning of season 6 is who would Morgan become now, and our hope is that people see this as – this is a Morgan that we've never seen before, and he's a more morally grey Morgan than perhaps we've seen before, and I think he's going to continue to keep you on your toes.

He continued: "So if you think you know Morgan, you should keep watching because he's still evolving. He's still changing.

"I think you see that [reinvention] with Morgan in episode 601, of the necessity of change and evolution to survival, and in his case, it is all rooted in a family that he's trying to reunite, in particular with Grace and the baby that she's carrying.

"But it also just gets into those questions which I think everyone's wrestling with: what do you do and what do you become when your family's on the line?"

Fear the Walking Dead season 6 continues on Mondays at 9pm on AMC.
