How did Katya Jones get coronavirus?
KATYA Jones and Nicola Adams made history as the first ever same sex dancing couple.
And they're making history again as the first pair to ever have to pull out of a Strictly series due to illness - after Katya tested positive for Covid-19.
How did Katya Jones get coronavirus?
It is thought that Katya may have contracted the virus after buying lunch on her way to training.
A source told The Sun: “The BBC’s top brass are less than thrilled. Obviously everyone is glad Katya is OK but they put incredibly strict rules in place for a reason — to keep everyone safe.
"It’s been drummed into everyone that they need to follow protocol at all times – and some are saying that Katya has clearly broken the rules.
"Katya has been living alone at her flat and people have speculated whether she caught it when she went to grab a coffee and sandwich from shops ... during a break in training."
Katya trained alongside Nicola on Monday and Tuesday before she tested positive later that day - so Nicola is also having to self isolate for two weeks.
It is thought that at least four other staff members have had to self-isolate after coming into contact with Katya.
Katya posted a photo with Nicola on her Instagram with the caption: "My heart is broken I’m utterly gutted this Special journey had to end this way and you don’t get to give more"
"@nicolaadams You are a woman who didn’t need a hero, you became one. Definitely my hero."
"To everyone, thank you for your tremendous support and we will keep dancing for you guys one way or another."
What has Strictly said?
In a statement read out by Andrea McLean on Friday's Loose Women, bosses said that Nicola would not be able to return in a future series, since she is now too advanced in the competition and would have an "unfair advantage".
The statement read: "We announced before the series stated if anyone tested positive from Covid they'd be out of the competition.
"If someone has to miss a week it's called a bye and everyone gets one bye. But contestants are not allowed to miss more than one week.
"They're not allowed to re-enter the competition after they've taken part in the first episode.
"Jamie [Laing] was allowed back because he was injured before he began training and appeared on the show.
"Nicola can't come back because she will have an unfair advantage in the future as she's now had weeks of training."
However, Nicola and Katya have already been invited to appear on Strictly's sister show It Takes Two, after they are both out of isolation.
On It Takes Two on Thursday, November 12, host Gethin Jones told viewers: "I'm afraid I do have some very sad news.
"Some of you may already know that Nicola and Katya have had to withdraw from the competition, after Katya tested positive for Covid-19.
"She doesn't have any symptoms and is feeling good, but is obviously devastated that their time on Strictly has come to an end early, as we are.
"We will get them on the show for a chat as soon as their self-isolation period is over.
"Nicola and Katya, we're sending you all of the love tonight.
"Thankfully the rest of the cast are unaffected."
