I’m A Celebrity’s Beverley Callard planning explosive Coronation Street return next year

I'M A Celebrity's Beverley Callard has been lined up for an explosive return to Coronation Street next year.

The iconic soap star, who will take part in the first edition of I'm A Celeb to take place outside of Australia, told The Sun Corrie fans can expect to see her back in more familiar surroundings.

The actress, 63, was last seen on the Cobbles back in June when she stopped troublemakers Jordan and Chelsey from threatening Carla Connor.

Viewers did not know if that would be the last time they would see the former Rovers landlady in Weatherfield.

When asked if she'll return to the ITV soap after leaving I'm A Celeb's Grwych castle, she said she is in talks with soap bosses but the coronavirus pandemic could cause delays.

She said: "Yeah I think they maybe are planning that. At this moment in time I just don't know.

"Of course, I should have been on stage now, then I should have gone straight into panto, which is another reason why I said yes to this (I'm A Celebrity).

"Covid has made everyone's world turn upside down so I know Covid permitting I'm busy next year hopefully, I've got two years of work lined up when I left Coronation Street, being a paranoid actor, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens."

Despite admitting she is "nervous", the theatre star is looking forward to the challenge I'm A Celeb presents, but is wary of the unappealing aspects of the castle.

She said: "The only thing that worries me is the toilet side of things and personal hygiene."

The Yorkshire native joked that her husband Jon McEwan won't be the person she misses the most, as she laughed: "I think I’ll miss my dogs even more than Jon!"

Doing the famous reality show will prove to be an even bigger challenge for Callard, who has been at home recovering from major hip surgery.

She exclusively explained to The Sun how she almost didn't make it to the castle: "I had one operation in March and then I had the great big one in July and I was really worried that I wouldn't be able to do it.

"When I first told him [Beverley's hip surgeon] about it, he said to me 'Beverley, you've got no chance.'"

Her fortunes soon changed as she continued: "I have seen him a lot over the last few months and the last time I saw him he was either going to say yes you can do it or no you can't, and his words were 'I'm a helluva woman', he couldn't believe it."

The only activity Beverley will not allowed to take part in is bunjee jumping and she would have "hated" if she was ruled out of various trials and tasks on medical grounds.

"I would hate it if they said 'and Beverley can't take part in this because of medical reasons', I don't want to be thought of as a wuss, it would drive me insane."

Beverley is most certainly one of the Queens of soap, but will she be able to go all the way and be crowned Queen of the Castle?
