However, the speed of the routine went against Clara, as she forgot some steps which lead to more mistakes.
At one point, she appeared to forget the routine altogether, before pulling it back and completing the dance.
However, Aljaz had to give her a big, long hug to console her, the disappointment clear to see.
The judges did their best to lift her spirits, with Shirley Ballas saying: "What a way to open the show, it was a little bit hit and miss.
"The parts you did were absolutely outstanding but as you know there were so many mistakes but I commend you for picking up like a professional and carrying on through."
Motsi Mabuse added: "It's true, we saw the mistakes, but I honestly I had goosebumps, you picked it up from those mistakes, and those were special moments as you let go. That's so moving."
Craig Revel Horwood said: "You lost your balance on the leap and think that set you off on a wobbly darling.
"You lost your footing, you forgot the routine halfway through which is unfortunate."
Clara had found herself at the bottom of the leaderboard last week with her samba, but Craig said: "The beauty is you did a lot better than last week. This week is your dance it just went horribly wrong sadly."
Despite their encouragement, Clara was emotional as she went up to speak to Claudia Winkleman.

Asked how she was, Clara said: "I don't know, you know what, we're all kind of processing how we deal with this process.
"No word of a lie, rehearsal today I got all my steps in, but I think adrenaline got me."
The couple managed to score 19 from the judges despite her mistakes.
