BRIDGE TO BOND

Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page ‘in the running to play James Bond’ say bookies

BRIDGERTON star Regé-Jean Page is in the mix to be the next James Bond, according to the bookies.

The handsome 31-year-old actor has set pulses racing in Netflix's saucy period drama - and it might just have helped him bag the role of the greatest ladies man of them all.

Regé-Jean is now among the frontrunners to be 007, with Ladbrokes slashing his odds to 5/1.

It puts him just behind Tom Hardy, James Norton and Idris Elba in the bookmakers' list of stars to take over from Daniel Craig.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "We've seen plenty of interest in Regé-Jean Page off the back of Bridgerton's success and we wouldn't be surprised to see him overtake Idris Elba, James Norton and even Top Hardy into top spot in the betting."

In his new Netflix series, Regé-Page plays Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, who enjoys a steamy and passionate relationship with sought after debutante Daphne Bridgerton.

While the nine-part drama is full of graphic sex scenes, it was Regé-Jean's seductive lick of a spoon that tipped viewers over the edge.

The tongue-teasing moment in episode three had fans in a frenzy on Twitter.

In September it was revealed next Bond flick No Time To Die will definitely be Daniel Craig's last as the famous spy.

Producer Barbara Broccoli insisted Daniel has put away his spy gadgets for the last time.

She said: “There’s a few lines that are in the script that Bond fans will love from the books and some wonderful locations that are described in the books.

“We consider this film to be a classic Bond film but with a modern twist.

“It’s also vitally important because it is the fifth and final one that Daniel Craig is going to be doing, so it’s a culmination of everything his portrayal of the character has been through and it ties up all the storylines.

“It’s a pretty epic film, I have to say.”

Daniel first played Bond in Casino Royale in 2006 but after Spectre in 2015 he said he would “rather slash my wrists” than play 007 again.

The film's release has been pushed back numerous times due to the coronavirus pandemic but Bond fans will finally get to see it from April 2.
