Who is Robin on The Masked Singer?

Robin belted out Can’t Stop The Feeling by Justin Timberlake on his first appearance - and the judges were impressed by his set of pipes.

Certain clues included some hints about boxing as well as a reference to “flying without wings”.

Judges Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan and Davina McCall offered a wide range of guesses, including singer Bruno Mars, boxer Amir Khan, fitness instructor Joe Wicks and even former EastEnders star Dean Gaffney.

Robin made it through to the final after dropping hints such as "you'd need the luck of the Irish to guess me" and the fact he's always known he'd be a footballer.

The Masked Singer also sang Rockin' Robin as a hint to his identity and in the semi-finals dropped clues saying he started young, was known for being blue and his discovery was accidental.

The judges revised their guesses to Aston Merrygold, Olly Murs, Lee Ryan, Gareth Gates, James Blunt, , Craig David, Jack Grealish, and even Big Narstie.

But on Saturday, February 13 2021, Robin was revealed to be ex-JLS star Aston Merrygold.

What were the fan theories?

Westlife star Nicky Byrne shared a video of a robin on Twitter and fans were convinced he was dropping a huge hint that he was Robin.

The singer, 42, captioned the video: "Look at this little fella I saw today! #cute"

Fans were quick to point fingers at the Westlife singer, with one person writing: "How much did #MaskedSingerUK pay you to do this?", and another added: "Lol Nicky….here’s hoping it’s you as robin….I have money on you x"

But after the semi-final, fans were "100%" convinced that the person behind the mask is JLS' Aston Merrygold due to a telling clue during his latest VT.

Robin mentioned being "usually blue", which caused Davina to speculate if it could be Lee Ryan from Blue.

Yet, JLS fans came out in force on social media as they revealed that blue was Aston's colour in the band.

The colour blue was a staple throughout his JLS career and influenced his red carpet outfits and was used on merchandise, including their JLS branded condoms.

Taking to Twitter, one penned: "Thought this last week but Aston Merrygold from JLS is Robin as his colour was blue #TheMaskedSinger".

Another wrote: "I was today years old when I found out JLS had there own colour sweat/ T shirts, & that Aston was Blue!! #TheMaskedSingerUK #TheMaskedSinger.".

A fan commented: "he mentioned BLUE... The colours from each JLS member... They each wore their own colour.... Aston's was BLUE" [sic].

Some pointed out that his performance of Rockin' Robin on the show was a hint at Aston's performance of the same song on Stars In Their Eyes as a child.

A reference to flipping pancakes could be hinting at Aston previously being a chef on children's TV.

And one eagle-eyed viewer even noticed what could be a tattoo on Robin's arm, very similar to Aston's.

One Twitter user said: "Aston Merrygold is the only possibility for Robin!"

Viewers guessed television presenter Karim Zeroual was the Robin as Albert Square was seen in the clue package and the 27-year-old had a small part in EastEnders in 2006.

One fan tweeted: "I think Robin is the Karim geez that was in [sic] EastEnders and Strictly Come Dancing…"

Other viewers identified the mask wearer as former member of boyband Blue, Lee Ryan, who featured on EastEnders from April 2017-2018.

A fan wrote: "Robin definitely has to be Lee Ryan.

"Woody Woodward in EastEnders, has that iconic high singing voice and was the one from Blue who commented about Westlife's flying without wings."

Another EastEnders star Jake Wood may also be in the running after playing Max Branning since 2006 and hosting the boxing podcast Pound For Pound with Spencer Oliver since 2018.
