Will Kim Cattrall be in And Just Like That?

Fans were crushed when it was announced that Kim Cattrall would not be reprising her Sex and the City role during And Just Like That’s first season.

Instead, she was working on a new role for the How I Met Your Mother reboot, How I Met Your Father.

During that time, she also revealed on the podcast that she wasn’t interested in portraying the role of Samantha Jones again.

“I wouldn’t be any good doing something that I really didn’t want to do,” she said at the time.

Cattrall’s comments came as a shock to fans, and they were even more confused after it was revealed that she would be reprising her role in the Season 2 finale.

On May 31, 2023, was the first to report that Cattrall would, in fact, be making a return for season 2 of the show, but only for one scene.

Sources told the outlet that she shot her dialogue on March 22, in New York City, and didn’t see or speak to the show’s stars, including Sarah Jessica Parker and showrunner Michael Patrick King.

In Cattrall’s scene, she has a phone conversation with Parker’s character Carrie Bradshaw about missing the ‘Last Supper’ party at her old apartment.

“My flight’s three hours delayed, Carrie! I won’t be able to make it there in time,” Samantha said after trying to fly from London to New York to surprise her friend. “Well, it is your apartment and I have to pay my respects.”

Samantha then asked to be put on speakerphone so she could properly bid farewell to Carrie’s place.

“Thank you for everything you f**king fabulous, fabulous flat,” she added before wrapping up her call with Carrie. “Ta and cheerio! And have a great night.”

What happened between Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker?

Cattrall’s short appearance on the show is likely linked to the alleged public feud she’s had with Parker for years.

Back in 2018, Parker told Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen that she was “heartbroken” after Cattrall said she was never friends with her co-stars.

“We had this experience and it was amazing, and nothing will ever be like it. We had a connection with an audience, and we had a connection with the city and with this crew, and we got to tell these crazy stories with each other. So I don’t want to mess with that,” Parker said, via .

“I couldn’t imagine anyone else playing that part. So there was no fight; it was completely fabricated, because I actually never responded. And I won’t, because she needed to say what she needed to say, and that is her privilege.”

In previous comments, Cattrall also claimed that her relationship with Parker had become “toxic.”

“Nobody ever picks up the phone and tries to contact you and say, ‘How you doing?’ That would have been the way to handle it,” Cattrall said in 2017, via TODAY.com. “This is, it feels like, a toxic relationship.”

She continued: “This is really where I take to task the people from ‘Sex and the City,’ and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker.

“…I really think she could’ve been nicer. I don’t know what her issue is.”

What has the cast said about Cattrall’s return to the show?

In an interview with , Parker took the time to comment on Samantha’s return.

“The idea emerged because of the 25 years and wanting to celebrate that, but also acknowledge the affection that we had for Samantha—that we continue to have,” Parker told the outlet.

“She’s been present on the show in text form, so it just seemed such a nice way to put a face to the text, and just have a moment.”

Parker also told : “And it’s a really opportune moment in the story, [a] consequential event happening in Carrie’s life, that Samantha rings and they have this quick, lovely, sentimental, funny call.

“And it just feels normal and really nice, and I’m glad that we could manage it and work it out and get it sorted time-wise and schedule-wise.”

Kristin Davis, who executive produces And Just Like That, agreed.

“We had a conversation about it and we decided that it was right for the fans,” she told EW. “The fans miss Samantha. The fans love Samantha. Samantha’s a fantastic character. We get it.”
