Antiques Roadshow expert horrified as couple damage precious James Bond poster by ‘scraping it off wall with knife’
AN ANTIQUES Roadshow expert was left horrified after a couple damaged a vintage James Bond movie poster by "scraping it off the wall with knife".
Expert Wayne Colquhoun was left gobsmacked while valuing an original 007 poster for the 1962 film Dr. No when the owners revealed how they had come into possession of the rare item.

The couple from the Lake District revealed they had “scraped it off a wall” with knives.
Speaking to viewers at home, Wayne said: “Here we have an original quad poster - Dr. No the first James Bond film starring Sean Connery and we can see here hiding in the shadows is Dr. No, written by Ian Fleming.
"Where did you get the poster from?”
The guest replied: “My wife and I scraped it from the cellar wall of my grandmother’s house up in Windermere.

Mortified, the expert replied: “You scraped it?”
The owner explained: “We scraped it with wallpaper knives, this is one of 30 or 40 movie posters."
The expert proceeded to explain that this had caused some minor damage to the collectors piece.
A shocked Wayne remarked: “So you scraped it off with a scraper, you can see there are a few marks where you’ve done that.”

The guest wife said that Sean Connery was her favourite Bond and she was thrilled to be in possession of such a remarkable item.
Wayne gave viewers a little history about the significance of the item revealing that a James Bond poster recently sold for £87,000.
He said: "The Vatican issued a special [announcement] saying that this was bringing the moral sentiment of the nation down and in Ireland the posters that they displayed they had to put clothes on the models.
“It was too risqué at the time, being a Catholic country. Only last year a Dr No. the first James Bond film poster in fantastic condition in an international auction made £87,000.”

“Now I think that was a one-off because somebody just wanted it. But they often sell for £30,000."
The couple looked thrilled to be sitting on a jackpot estimated to be £5,000 to £6,000 after the damage.
Wayne concluded: “And I think in this rather worn condition being scarped off the wall it would have an audition guide price of £5,000 to £6,000,” Wayne revealed.
“Not bad for half a day's work scraping off the wall. And I’m really glad you did because it needs to be saved as well it’s iconic now.”
